Youth, never forget your original aspirations
Never forget your original aspiration, and you will achieve your goal.
A hundred pieces of gold can buy a fine horse, a thousand pieces can buy a beautiful woman, ten thousand pieces can buy a high rank, but where can you buy youth? Youth is fleeting, like a clump of straw, relentlessly harvested by the scythe of time. The symphony of youth is filled with joy and sorrow; the bittersweet experiences intertwined within become our most precious treasure, memories we will never forget.
Brief, yet brilliant. The nature of youth compels us to maintain a steadfast original aspiration.
Some people, for my younger self, may only remain in my hazy memories, only to be encountered through recollections. Whenever I feel melancholic, I record my feelings in writing, and then my heart naturally returns to tranquility. Because I know it is merely present loneliness, and solitude will not last. As Daisaku Ikeda said: "Without friendship, one cannot speak of youth, for friendship is the most beautiful flower adorning youth." The passage of time may take away some people and things, but memories remain—what is there to worry about?
Youth is for maturing; it's a period of rapid growth. Now, I've lost the naiveté of high school, yet I still haven't learned how to navigate social situations or live independently…
I'm still carefree. If I think too much, I'll find the world isn't so wonderful. This isn't a negative thought, but rather an attitude I've learned, because the world is so complex, while life can be simple.
Sometimes I get anxious, like when an autumn wind blows, and I can't help but think of my youth slipping away in the winds of time, a nameless anxiety welling up. I'm also afraid, of regretting when I realize I've squandered my youth.
That's why, when a gentle breeze lifts my black hair, when the first rays of dawn touch my face, when the new green outside the window gradually turns yellow, I transform the stirrings in my heart into powerful strides of youth.
Now, university life is often less than ideal, but I still maintain this striving spirit to face everything. Because I am neither a weary old woman nor a lovesick mistress, I will not sit on a bench under an old tree lamenting the passing of time, nor will I hide my face in sorrow before the window of an attic. I am a young man full of youthful passion, an eagle ready to soar in the blue sky. I believe the sky of dreams is not so far away, and I believe the future of my dreams will definitely be realized.
But I am not a perfect college student either. I have no excellent grades, no outstanding talents, no outstanding appearance… My youth is no different from that of any ordinary person. I dare to make vows that cannot be fulfilled, and I dare to talk about dreams without restraint.
My youth story is still incomplete, and I think it must be because of an incomplete love, I thought to myself. If I cannot let love leave an unforgettable and unique memory in my youth, then I will lack something to talk about in the future. An incomplete love can fill a complete youth.
In our years, persistence is our persistence, letting go is our freedom, parting is for a chance to meet again, and meeting is the beginning of a deep bond. There is nothing that cannot be picked up, and no obsession that cannot be let go. Every year the osmanthus blossoms and fades, but I hope that when the osmanthus blooms again next year, we will still be the same as we were before.
